BHOB Classes

BHOB goes beyond what you may find at other food pantries by offering cooking and life skills classes for our pantry guests and community.

Cooking Matters

The six-week Cooking Matters course provides participants with the cooking and budgeting skills necessary to increase food security and quality of life. Taught in a hands-on kitchen environment, the course challenges participants to reconsider food preferences, habits, nutrition, food safety, practical shopping and meal planning. The program is for households at or below 200% of the federal poverty level.

The class includes a store visit to educate participants about getting the most nutrition foods for their dollar by teaching them how to read food labels, compare unit prices, find whole grains and identify purchasing methods.

Cooking Matters will be held at BHOB Tuesdays May 14-June 18 from 6:00-8:00 pm. Participants will learn how to:

  • Prepare delicious, healthy, meals
  • Shop for healthy foods on a tight budget
  • Use new foods and cooking techniques
  • Make new recipes and recreate them with ingredients you take home each week

Space is limited. To sign up or for more information, contact Linda at or 503-639-3181 (ext 1).
