Our Story
Nestled in an ordinary part of Tigard is an extraordinary place. Bethlehem House of Bread exists to ensure that our neighbors who are hungry have access to healthy and nutritious food to thrive. A well-fed community is better for us all.
DonateOur Mission
Feeding those who are hungry in body and spirit at a table where all are welcome. We understand that life happens, but hunger shouldn’t. Every day, hundreds of our neighbors don’t know where their next meal will come from, and we’re here to help them.
We’re able to meet our mission thanks to the generosity of our incredible partners, individual contributors, and volunteers. We also actively seek out and apply for grants.
Everyone is Welcome
Bethlehem House of Bread is a unique hybrid—we’re part food pantry, part community center, and part support system for those going through challenging times. While we’re foremost about hunger relief, at the heart of it, we’re about building a stronger and healthier community. Our pantry shelves have food labels in English, as well as Spanish and Vietnamese to increase accessibility and inclusion for pantry guests.
We strive to create a safe space for everyone in an environment of hospitality, respect, and inclusivity. We do not discriminate on the basis of race, religion, creed, national origin, citizenship, immigration status, sex, sexual orientation, gender, gender affiliation, age, disability, or military status.
Our Impact: By the Numbers
In 2023, with support from neighbors and community partners, our collective efforts made a meaningful difference in the lives of pantry guests. Every month, we provide free food to over 800 families, which translates to about 3,000 people.
Our History
Bethlehem House of Bread was founded in July 2013 through a merger between Tigard United Methodist Church and Metzger United Methodist Church. Since then, thousands of families have received food from the pantry and community garden, participated in gardening and cooking classes, and left with clothing and household essentials from our free onsite Caring and Sharing store.
We’re grateful for the continued partnership and all of the dedicated volunteers and food donations the church sends our way.
