Volunteer Opportunities

Thank you for your interest in volunteering at Bethlehem House of Bread. At a time when 1 in 7 Oregonians are food insecure, you’re helping fulfill our mission that no one in our community goes to bed hungry.

BHOB currently serves over 350 families a month, which translates to about 1,200 people—many of which are children.

There are many ways to get involved at BHOB and most opportunities are only a few hours in length and don’t require a regular commitment. Individuals, families, groups, and businesses are all encouraged to volunteer.

Volunteer options include:

  • Assisting families in shopping the pantry
  • Stocking pantry shelves
  • Repackaging bulk food items
  • Helping with fundraisers or other events
  • Working in the Community Garden
  • Sorting clothing and other donations
  • Teaching a class
  • Providing clerical or website support
  • Assisting with grounds and building maintenance

Scheduled Volunteer Shifts

Food Pantry Support
Volunteers guide guests through the food pantry in a manner that closely resembles a grocery store. Guests receive a personalized shopping guide to help them select food that meets their needs.

  • Thursdays and Sundays: 12:30-3:30 pm
  • Tuesdays: 4:30-7:30 pm

Stocking Food Pantry
Volunteers stock the pantry shelves to get it ready for our shopping guests. You’ll assist with a variety of needs, including carrying boxes from the delivery truck to the to the pantry and storeroom, shelving donated foods, breaking down empty boxes for recycling, and maintaining the cleanliness of the pantry area.

  • Mondays: 9:00-11:00 am
  • Thursdays: 10:30-11:30 am
  • Fridays: 4:00-5:00 pm
  • Saturdays: 8:30-9:30 am

Since BHOB opened its doors in 2013, hundreds of volunteers have donated thousands of hours of their time, talent, energy, and passion to make our mission a reality. We are grateful for them and hope to see you soon.
